Charlotte Danielson - A Framework for Teaching
The teacher evaluation model represented in this document is modeled after the Frameworks of Charlotte Danielson. Rather than trying to create a new perspective on why we chose the Frameworks, we will instead quote Frances Faircloth Jones, ASCD President 1996-97.
“Enhancing Professional Practice…provides a “road map” to guide novice teachers through their initial classroom experience, a structure to help experienced professionals become more effective, and a means to focus improvement efforts.
Engaging all students in learning is our primary mission as educators and Charlotte Danielson makes this the unifying thread of the framework. All stakeholders – teachers, colleagues, parents, and the larger community – are needed to reach this goal…”
When everyone understands the framework about what makes good teaching, it makes us more efficient and effective. Within this framework for teaching, teachers have clear expectations spelled out for them and a more objective method of evaluation available to enhance their continued professional growth. For supervisors, the frameworks allow them to more purposefully work with their staffs to improve instruction and in the final analysis improve student achievement.
