Online Advertising
Do you get annoyed at all of the advertising you encounter each day? Which types of advertising specifically? I have found that the majority of the public viewers hate online advertising. It has the most negative effect out of all of the advertising techniques.
We don’t think much about all of the advertising we see each day, until we hear about it or actually pay attention to it. There are many different types of advertising. According to “Marketing to Teens,” some strategies and techniques companies use are the following: targeting kids, excitement, celebrity stars, bandwagon, scale, put down competition, facts to promote the product, make kids feel good, good music, cartoon characters, and repetition. When you see a commercial for the coolest new toy you don’t just see it once. The advertiser uses repetition so you keep seeing it and making you want it more. Plus it is more likely that you will remember the product if you see it more than once. When they put in the child’s favorite TV start or cartoon character it makes them more interested in the commercial. If they see other kids in the commercial having fun with the product then the viewer will think that if he gets the product he will have fun too. (“Marketing to Teens”) These are the things that make the commercial appealing to us or not. Companies that advertise on TV are focusing on targeting kids and teenagers because they are the easiest to attract. They catch their attention by having exciting things going on in their commercial, such as other kids using the product to help the viewer picture themselves using the product. They use the children’s favorite cartoon character or celebrity. These ways of advertising are the most effective and get the most positive feedback. Unlike online advertising. (“Marketing to Teens”)

Online advertising has very hateful comments about it. Users get so annoyed that they start to defend against pop-ups. In April, there were 26% of the users defended against pop-ups. In September, there were 69%. Users show their hate to the companies that allow the advertiser to be advertising on their site. So, then they don’t use that company anymore because they have bad advertising. “If anything could be worse than pop-ups, this is it. I hate this ad. Hate Hate Hate.” – Unknown User (Nielson)
In the future if they still allow online advertising there will be more people that defend against it. I think that they shouldn’t allow online advertising. People get turned off from the annoying online advertising and they won’t want to visit that site again. Instead, they should keep the advertising to a minimum. Only allowing advertising on the sides of the website. Note the pop up type of advertising. It will make the Internet more enjoyable to be on and it will be better for the companies.
