Are video games harmful? Well, according to Kensavage.com, a girl nicknamed Snowly died in the fall of 2005 playing World of Warcraft for several continuous days. Snowly’s friends who also played World of Warcraft said that, “Snowly was a very diligent member and a key official of our community, who was always connected to the Internet.” A couple days before her death Snowly said that she was getting ready for a very hard portion of the game and had little rest, she also told her friends she was very tired. (“ Another Kids Dies From Playing Online Game) Although video games have some positive effects on children, they mainly have negative effects.
There are some positive effects of video games. According to ( The Good and Bad Effects of Video Games) had some positive effects of video games are problem solving, motor skills, multi-tasking, strategy, math and reading skills, perseverance, pattern recognition, inductive reasoning, memory, teamwork, simulation of real world skills, and hand-eye coordination. Even though these are positive effects they only increase to a certain extent ( The Good and Bad Effects of Video Games). ( Children’s Media Use) says, “ The recommended time children should spend watching T.V., computer, or video games is about two to two and a half hours a day.” ( "Children’s Media Use)
It’s widely agreed by (“Are Video Games Bad for Me?") Those video games are more harmful than good for children. ( "The Good and Bad Effects of Video Games.”) Say that video games even if fun, are very destructive for a person’s physical and mental health. Many mental health problems caused by video games include, sleep deprivation, loss of interest in real life, increased depression and anxiety, addiction to said video games, lower grades in school, social isolation, and increased aggressive behaviors according to ( The Good and Bad Effects of Video Games). As far as other mental problems such as anxiety, and depression. The full credit should go to the video games.
With mental effects come physical effects along with them. There are many serious ramifications to excessive video game playing. Excessive video game playing can lead to seizures, blindness, muscular and skeletal disorders like carpal tunnel, and arthritis, according to raisesmartkid.com. When gamers become less interested in the real world they stop doing everyday things that keep their bodies running like dental hygiene, and exercise by (“Are Video Games Bad for Me?"). A lack of exercise leads to obesity, which is one of the major health problems in America. ("Video Games: Bad, but Not All Bad.") This also leads to negative changes in dieting trends.
In conclusion video games can cause many serious problems, both mentally, and physically for a person’s body. These problems are very serious and potentially life threatening. All in all video games are more bad than good and should only be used in moderation.
