Greetings!
Welcome to Halmstad Elementary, home of the Hawks. Let me tell you a little about us. We are a school-wide Title 1A elementary with around 400 students and about 55 staff members. We are organized into 3 sections per grade level, kindergarten through fifth grade. Halmstad provides service to English language learners (ELL) for elementary students in the district. We provide music, art and physical education to all students and have a great library for student use. A part-time nurse?s assistant is on site to help with health related issues.
The Chippewa Falls School District uses a variety of assessments to help educators gauge and measure student growth. This data is then used to help teachers improve and create lessons custom fit for their students. For more information about some of these assessments, please click on the following links:

Halmstad Elementary earned the nation’s top award in education, The National Blue Ribbon Award in 2016. Based on academic achievement, Halmstad Elementary is the only school in the Chippewa Falls School District to have earned the award. We are very proud of our achievement!
Halmstad has also earned several other awards such as the Title School of Recognition in 2014, the School Health Award in 2016, 2017, 2018, and numerous awards through our PBIS and RtI programs. Even with these accolades, we understand that there is still a lot of work to do!
The Chippewa Falls Community believes in character education, and Halmstad is proud to agree. We foster a number of community service projects for our students to be involved in; such as collecting tab tops for the Ronald McDonald House, adopting a hawk with Irvine Park, doing a fundraisers for the Humane Society, Irvine Park, Veteran's Home, and others. We want our students to learn that is important to help others in need, both human and nature. We also teach the Second Steps curriculum that helps students to understand what it means to be involved in a community and proper ways to interact with others in that community.
Halmstad Elementary is very lucky to have therapy dogs in our school. Jack was our first dog and he started coming to school in January of 2014. Jack has since retired, however Tonka comes with her handler. This program has been very successful for our students as they meet with our dogs to read them a book, talk to them, and even pat and give them a scratch behind their ears.
Positive Behavior Interventions and Support (PBIS) is a system of supports used at Halmstad for reinforcing positive behaviors in students. In fact, we were awarded the PBIS School of Distinction in 2014-2018 by the State Department of Education. We are proud of our award, but more important, we are proud of the good work being done our people in the way we change student lives.
As you can see, there is a lot going on at Halmstad Elementary. Oops, I almost forgot to mention our very active and supportive PTO! This dedicated group of parents and staff are able to help us with many different projects and activities throughout the year, such as field trips, dances, community service projects, and many, many more. They are always looking for more help, so if you would like to participate, just let us know!
Thanks for visiting our web site. Please do not hesitate to reach out and contact us if you have any questions or would like further information about the great things that are going on at Halmstad Elementary!
