Independent Study

All programs at CVHS include the use of Independent Study coursework. Independent Study coursework does not include direct instruction from a teacher, rather the learning comes from a difference source (web-based learning platform, textbook & study guides, or some other resource that lends itself to independent learning. Below are some additional details about Independent Study coursework at CVHS.

• Independent Study coursework is a major part of learning and earning credit at CVHS. There is no pathway to graduation at CVHS that does not include Independent Study coursework.
• Most of the Independent Study coursework is delivered through the Edgenuity online learning platform where students watch videos, complete practice exercises, and take quizzes and tests. The Edgenuity platform includes many supports and resources to assist with learning.
• Independent Study classes are facilitated and supported by teachers at CVHS who are trained in and familiar with the coursework. Teachers also support the pacing of the classes to help students reach their credit and learning goals.
• Note taking is required for most Independent Study classes to assist with the learning.

The PAS Program at CVHS building in time during the weekly schedule to allow students to work on Independent Study coursework. The majority of the school day on Tuesdays and Thursdays is devoted to Independent Study.

The GAP and Transitions Programs use Independent Study for the majority of the learning and coursework.
