Literacy

The academic programming in the PAS Program at CVHS includes an extra focus on literacy. During 4th period on Tuesdays and Thursdays, each of the four core teachers facilitates a common lesson focused on reading and writing skills. Each semester, the main component of the curriculum for this literacy course is a program-wide book read. The teachers use a novel chosen for it's engagement and important themes. Books used currently or in the past include Unbroken, The Glass Castle, and Divergent. The PAS Program teachers collaborate to create lessons focused on reading and writing skills and strategies that are related to section of reading from the current novel. Literacy class is a strong academic component of the curriculum at CVHS.
