What is the role of the Board?
The role of the Board is to lead, serve and represent the community's interests. This means that the Board must maintain some type of ongoing relationship with the community in order to understand community expectations, as well as to assure the community understands the effectiveness and challenges of the District's work.
What is Coherent Governance?
Coherent governance is a system and a practice by the Board of Education to exercise discipline and integrity as a whole to lead the organization for which it is responsible. This set of policies also helps to clarify the role of the board member (organizational outcomes) and the superintendent (process and operations). The Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District's Board of Education developed and adopted their own coherent governance policies in April of 2014.
The process of developing their coherent governance policies began with the Community Conversation for Educational Excellence. A design team was formed, and together, they planned a three-day event where a diverse group of community members were gathered to collaborate and determine the priorities of the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District. The results of this community gathering, fed directly into the Board's coherent governance policies as well as the district's strategic plan.
